Quotes of the day

I'm taking an art class and my art teacher gave us this quote today--

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans; that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never have otherwise occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way."

W. H. Murray
THE SCOTTISH HIMALAYAN EXPEDITION

Whatever you can do,
Or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius,
Power and magic in it
.

  1. Kelli ... or is it "Kells"? ;-D

What a cool quote. Natalie Goldberg would add to this (from Wild Mind) that one also must get "permission" from one's teacher. That plus the "commitment" Murray refers to are what allow us to act on our creativity.

Oh, by the way, I just now realized that I never responded to a comment you made on my blog some time ago. Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude. Here's the link to my reply: http://vincegotera.blogspot.com/2009/03/dragonfly-pages-10-11.html
